Apology, A Short story by Jeava Maria Joseph, XI Humanities
The days of beautiful lilies were fading away. The phantoms of exams
were haunting everyone. The wonderful memories ebbed away. The daily routine
packed with class test, questions, scolding and advice was more than enough.
All peers wanted the end of this hard year.
One day one of our much loved teachers came. I don’t know how she won our hearts. Perhaps she may have scolded us less
frequently. Unusually she taught nothing, but made us write a short remark of
herself. We were to state her strength, weakness, corrections needed, and the new policies needed for a better class. Although the task was hectic, we did it. Meanwhile the bell
rang loudly.
Later she came to our class the
last hour. We were curious to know what her reactions would be after reading our responses.
" This is the best class I ever
taught. Your words are very honest, not merely blunt flattery. I must change from now on. Let me begin”
"Natasha, come to the front.”
She was caught again, thought the entire class
Who would
know the coming magic?
" I humbly and sincerely apologize to you, on
behalf of the whole class. I made you the sinner of a crime you have not done. I
knew how that hurts you badly.”
The world is fast changing with
traditions. Usually the students apologize to the teachers , but now it is reversed, it seems.
"sorry ,from the bottom of my
heart.”
Shocked, amazed and startled we sat with her unexpected and unusual behavior. She stepped away briskly holding the
unexpected feedback tightly.
