The relation between brother and sister is beyond words..It can't be defined in a single word. The relationship between siblings is extraordinary and is given importance in every part of the world;especially in our motherland India. It is celebrated in the month of August. In India we call this festival as"Raksha Bandhan".

This is a special 'Hindu'festival which is celebrated in  India, and in our neighbouring countries like Nepal and Pakistan. This festival is mainly celebrated to show the love between brother and sister

The festival is made up of two words, namely ''Raksha" and "Bandhan".As per the Sanskrit meaning the word 'Raksha" means protection and "Bandhan"means 'tieness'or holding. It is also celebrated among cousins, sister and sisters -in-law and nephew and other such relations. The festival is mainly celebrated by Hindus in the northern and western parts of India along with other countries like Nepal and Pakistan. It is also celebrated among the sikhs and they called this festival as "Rakhardi".

The festival of Raksha Bandhan is originated centuries before and there are several stories behind this festival; one of the stories is based on "Mahabharata",Draupadi the wife of pandavas tied a rakhi to Lord Krishna while Kunti tied a rakhi to grandson Abhimanyu before the war. The festival Raksha Bandhan is observed as a reminding of the duty of  brothers and sisters. The occasion is  to celebrate any type of brother-sister relationship. On this day ,sister ties a rakhi around the wrist of her brother and prays for his health and well being; as a token of gratitude the brother returns a gift and promises his sister that 'he will protect her from all dangers and crises .So let's celebrate Raksha Bandhan.
